Marchglens trip to Kelpies

Two residents from Marchglen in Alloa, Erica and William of Menteith unit, went on a trip to the Kelpies with staff from Marchglen and Ericas sisters.

Rhianan at Marchglen has recently set up a new intitiative to hep boost morale and excitement in the home. The ‘Marchglen Wiching Well’ this will provide the residents an opportunity to write down on a star one wish that they have for the year of 2017, which they then drop into the well. Over the coming months wishes will be granted as the care team work on making the wishes come true.

Erica’s wish had been to visit the Kelpies as she had never been before, when we discussed this trip with her she was very eager.

William also came along on the trip, and his family met everyone at there, for an afternoon out.  Once we all arrived there, Erica was amazed with them and could not stop grinning. Each of The Kelpies stands up to 30 metres tall and each one weighs over 300 tonnes, they were amazing! Her sisters were pleased to see her so happy, as Erica doesn’t usually want to go out anywhere.

After mesmerising over the external structures we went into the visitor centre where we saw  the vision of Andy Scott, the story of the real life working horses of the area, the local history and the history of the canals which we all found very interesting. We popped in a for a nice cup of tea to warm up had a look at some of the unique souvenirs in the gift shop.

At Marchglen we take into account the needs and interests of our residents and try to come with ideas for outings and activities that each residents can enjoy, we hope that the ‘Marchglen Wishing Well’ is as well recieved by everyone else as it has been by Erica. We look forwar ot granting more wishes in 2017!
