Lambs Spring Visit to Mill House

At Mill House Care Home with Nursing in Chipping Campden, one of our residents mentioned she grew up with lambs and sheep, missed having them around and would love to see them again, so we decided to spring into action and make her wish to come true.

We posted a comment

‘Does anyone have a few lambs that can run around our lounge and make our residents day…?’

and before long, we were amazed when people started sharing our message and offering to help and support us. One of our resident’s son made the generous offer to come in with some lambs and that’s where the whole story started.

With the help of our local farmer, who our residents have nicknamed ‘The Handsome Farmer’, our residents and team had a morning to remember when he turned up at our home with six lambs.

Our residents were excitingly gathered in our lounge and were thrilled to be able to pet, hold and feed them.

Some of our residents even wanted to keep them with comments such as:
“You’re coming with me. Come on then. No one will know if you get under my jumper.”

The lambs also enjoyed a frolic and a snack in our garden with our residents and team looking on.

We were also delighted to welcome BBC Radio Gloucestershire into our home who asked to come and join us when they heard of our event. So far our video has had over 282,693 hits on their website.

As Chipping Campden has such a rich farming and wool history, many of our residents’ and their families were brought up on farms or were connected in some way to the wool industry so it was an activity that brought back lots of happy memories. For those that have never been up close to a lamb, it was a fabulous new experience.

We must say the lambs won all our hearts, residents and team alike and they were never short of an offer of a cuddle. We’re not sure who enjoyed it the most, the lambs who loved the attention or our residents and team, but judging from the big smiles and comments, this event was a winner with all involved.

In fact, after the huge success with the lambs, our residents at Mill House have asked if we can find piglets and wait for it… a giraffe! The giraffe we think is a joke so for now, Paul, our Activities Coordinator will concentrate on the piglets.

We’ve got lots coming up here at Mill House – life is certainly never dull here. Why not come back to our news area and find out what we have planned and what we’ve got up to…

At Mill House, we deliver residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 45 elderly residents in a friendly and supportive environment.
