John Ray school visits Bradbury House

The residents at Bradbury House in Braintree were treated to a visit by pupils from John Ray Junior School in Braintree.

The children surprised the residents at Bradbury House by singing Christmas Carols for them, they sang songs such as ‘Rudolph the red nosed reindeer’, ‘Away in a manager’, ‘Little donkey’ and ‘Jingle bells’. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the singing, and really loved singing-along to the songs with the children.

After the singing Stanley, one of the residents at Bradbury House, gave the children a little surprise by playing the harmonica, which the children enjoyed, they then went into the dining room for some juice and cake!

Visiting school children are great for the residents at Bradbury House, they can be an endless source of joy for them as they can share affection and play, and provide assistance with simple tasks. In this case the residents got to join in singing and feeling a part of the local community. Being around the children can give them an extra boost, it is believed that the elderly that are in contact with children are happier, in better physical health, and have higher degrees of life satisfaction. They feel needed again as they have the opportunity to teach the children dependent on the situation in the home.

Thank you for coming to meet the residents, and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Merry Christmas!
