Jiving the month away at Bradbury House

We have had a really busy September at Bradbury House in Braintree.

We kick started the month’s activities with a visit to see the Bocking Brass Band at the public gardens in Braintree. Residents and relatives went along for a sing along and to enjoy some old classic songs which brought back some fond memories. We all had a wonderful day in the sunshine.

We continued the week with more fun at our Hollywood star themed quiz and then with a few jives as the ‘Dickie Bow Jivers’ joined us to perform some old style dancing.  The residents spent the afternoon dancing and singing along to the group. There were plenty of flags being waved around and tears of joy from residents as they took a trip down memory lane. It was a wonderful nostalgic event enjoyed by all.

Mid-month saw us doing a number of different activities. These included a letter writing group which gave residents the opportunity to write letters to family and friends. A guess the 60’s star and a collective nouns quiz and a coffee morning at the local library which gave residents the chance to meet some new faces and play some old classic games.

Residents also enjoyed welcoming the beginning of autumn with some harvest festival themed activities. Many of the residents remember making corn dolls at school to mark the start of the autumn months. We spent some time getting creative and reminiscing with one another.

To finish the month we celebrated Oktoberfest. With Oktoberfest being a 16 day German beer festival that is a celebration of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese marriage, we thought it would be nice for residents to sample some German beer. There was German folk music in the background for everybody to enjoy, whilst being educated about the festival.

We also had a Macmillan coffee and cake morning on Friday the 29th of September. We had some superb freshly baked cakes made and everybody got together to have a good old natter. It was a really nice morning and all for an excellent cause.
