‘Inspirational’ Elaine scoops national award

The staff and residents of Marchglen Care Home in Alloa were celebrating this week as popular resident Elaine Corsie scooped the ‘Resident Achievement’ award at the recent Scottish Care Awards.

Elaine has been living with Multiple Sclerosis since 1987 and won the award following the ‘inspirational’ art auction she hosted in aid of the MS Society earlier this year. Prior to moving to Marchglen due to the deterioration of her own MS, Elaine had been a successful artist and is passionate about support and research available for those with MS. She decided to auction off her own artwork to raise funds for the valuable charity, with the works including some detailed paintings of famous landmarks and a portrait of Sir Sean Connery.

The auction was well supported by the local community, raising over £1,100 in total. There was a treat for those who did attend as 5 Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders from the Clackmannan Company turned up, along with talented young piper Connor Pearson.

Marchglen Home Manager, Tanya Taylor-Smith told us:

‘Elaine is such an inspiration to us all. She understands the important role that the MS Society plays in supporting not only those with the condition, but also family and friends and she thoroughly deserves to be recognised in this way.

Everyone at Marchglen is so proud of Elaine and we look forward to celebrating with her!’
