Huntercombe Hall Carer Highly Commended

We are pleased to announce that Sharon Hunt, Senior Carer at Caring Homes’ Huntercombe Hall in Henley-on-Thames was recognised with Highly Commended in the ‘Care Home Worker Award’ at the Oxfordshire Social Care Awards 2018, in a ceremony hosted by the Oxfordshire Care Association of Care Providers on the 23rd March at the Kassam Stadium.

The event provided a sector-wide opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work delivered by care providers that make a difference every day and recognise particular individuals who make it happen.

The Care Home Worker Award recognises the significant role of the Care Home Worker in consistently providing a high quality standard, for people living in residential or nursing care, including hospices providing end of life care. Evidence of involving family and friends where appropriate, dedication, awareness of colleagues and career development through training were important elements for the judges to consider.

Sharon was praised for her total commitment in going the extra mile for residents and colleagues alike. Sharon showed a full commitment to caring for older people living with Dementia by achieving Caring Homes’ in-house City and Guilds accredited, Living in My World Gold Award. This required Sharon to complete three levels of training, reflection and evidence how this had benefited residents, family members and herself.

Sharon was delighted to receive to commendation saying; “I was very proud and honoured to receive this award. It makes the work I do very worthwhile.”

Sally Lorch, Regional Manager for Caring Homes said; “Sharon is a true care deliverer she not only cares for and understands each resident’s individual needs, but also cares for the relatives, staff and Huntercombe Hall as a whole. A true representative of the ethos of Caring Homes Group.”

As the local sector leader, OACP encouraged all providers, big and small, to take the time to nominate outstanding individuals within their services, who make a difference every day, to people they care for and support.

There were six categories in which to enter employees and one category for an outstanding provider. Entries were judged by a panel of family carers and professionals working in or alongside the sector.

It’s important that social care has a regular opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work it does day in and day out. We know that we have some amazing colleagues, and we are very proud to be shining a spotlight on them.

Huntercombe Hall provides residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 42 elderly residents. The Hall’s historic character was carefully preserved during its conversion to a care home in Henley-upon-Thames. Residents can relax in the stunning panelled library and dining room or enjoy views of the gardens from the bright and airy conservatory or take part in a wide range of activities.
