Home of Compassion see green this week

Home of Compassion nursing home in Thames Ditton was awash with the colour green on Friday 17th March with the Irish theme in full swing to celebrate Lá Fhéile Pádraig, “the Day of the Festival of Patrick”.

The Bistro was decorated with lucky shamrocks, balloons and every resident donned a hat.  The event, was a fun filled experience attended by residents and members of their family.

There was an “everything Irish quiz” where residents were tested on their knowledge; including how many calories there are in a pint of Guinness – wait for it….. only 198! Sláinte. In a single day around the world, more than 10 million glasses of Guinness are drunk.

Residents and the care team had a chance to learn unusual facts, for instance that Patrick changed his name when he became a bishop and even though he is widely thought of as Irish, no one actually knows his birthplace, though it was either in England, Wales or Scotland. In his teens Patrick was captured by pirates and taken to Ireland, managing to escape and later becoming a Christian priest before returning to Ireland as a missionary where he then spent years establishing schools, churches, and monasteries across the country.

The residents thoroughly enjoyed the quiz, activities such as this are not only fun but also a great way to help our residents hold onto the little grey brain cells. They engage the residents and provide them with something to talk about, often helping them reminisce about something they have done in the past. The discussions help them get to know each other a little better and build important friendships.

After the quiz Harry commented that he had thoroughly enjoyed himself and loved learning about the ‘Emerald Isle’.

We look forward to our next quiz day!

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
