Hillviews busy May

The residents at Hillview in Sauchie have had a busy month in May.

At Hillview we believe it is important to keep active and provide lots of opportunities for the residents to go out and do things they may have done at home and generally stay active, in body and mind. Outings for the residents, especially those with dementia, are very beneficial to body and mind. New scenery and also the exercise, both help the residents keep an active social life which is key to helping someone with dementia feel happy and motivated, helping with relaxation and general confidence.

Everyone needs a sense of purpose and to enjoy themselves during the day. Encouraging someone with dementia to do something creative, some gentle exercise, or take part in an activity helps them to realise their potential, which improves their self-esteem and reduces loneliness.

Along with the trip to the Motor Museum in Glasgow the residents enjoyed a trip on the bus to the beach at Aberdour. Aberdour Silver Sands is a small, sandy beach with amazing views of the islands of Inchmickery and Inchcolm. The residents really enjoyed the tranquil views, relaxing with the sea air!

The residents also had a shopping afternoon with a cuppa in the coffee shop at Sterling Mills. It is great to have a day out away from the home, the new surroundings give the residents something to talk about and they also love to look in the shops and gather inspiration for the home.

As the weather got a bit warmer the residents at Hillview Court enjoyed a games day in the garden. Playing large games in the garden such as skittles, quoits and tin-can alley, to name a few, are a great way for the residents to have a little exercise and fresh air whilst they have fun. The games are good for coordination, confidence and general overall well being, even helping the residents get a good nights sleep. The day was all wrapped up with a lovely cooling ice cream!

Hillview Court provides specialist nursing and dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 48 elderly people.
