Harvest Festival at Southlands Place

Southlands Place were delighted to celebrate our own Harvest Festival with our residents, families, friends and team at our home in Bexhill on Sea this week.

After discussion with our residents, we decided to celebrate nature’s bounty and beauty rather than celebrating Halloween which they were not very keen on.

We created a large autumnal Harvest display of fruits and vegetables in our reception area with items that were kindly donated and raffled all of these during the afternoon event. The display was so full of interest; lively and exciting and full of autumnal colours. We were amazed at the generosity of families and friends of Southlands Place and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.

We received really great support from our local Bexhill Gardeners and they provided some produce grown on their allotment including a massive Pumpkin and lovely Bramley Apples.

We were entertained by experienced musician/vocalist entertainer ‘Little Uke’ who joined us and provided a lively sing-a-long session with percussion instruments provided to encourage participation. She has an extensive repertoire of 20th Century songs and performed in such a friendly and interactive way with everyone with the emphasis on having fun. She uses a range of instruments such as ukuleles with the occasional tune on a pennywhistle thrown in for good measure so we all enjoyed a great sing-a-along. Not only that, three of the Neighbourhood Gardeners attended on the day and two members, Alvin and Tony performed and sang songs for our residents. Alvin performed some Nat King Cole numbers and also recited some of his poetry with an autumnal theme: (Trees and Winter Wonderland).

All in all it was a great day and we were glad to see everyone enjoying themselves together. It’s great when we have people from the area joining us as well and for Southlands Place to become an integrated part of the local community.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
