Getting crafty at Galsworthy

At Galsworthy House nursing home in Kingston upon Thames residents enjoy their crafting sessions.

Some residents were busy making cards which can be a challenging but fun activity with lots of concentration involved. The residents enjoyed cutting, sticking and creating some lovely cards.

Participating in artistic activities helps provide a sense of purpose for our residents. It bolsters problem-solving skills and satisfaction once the creations are completed. Also, when our residents are able to share their handmade gifts with friends and family, they develop a sense of pride in what they have created.

Arts and crafts and other creative projects can help alleviate boredom and keep elderly minds busy, and may even help prevent feelings of depression. It can help create an environment for gathering together and interacting between each other, creating discussion. Furthermore, arts and crafts help with hand-eye coordination, cognitive abilities, and concentration!
