Gardening and Day Care at Mill House

Mill House is always pleased to welcome our gardening expert John Massey, a regular day care visitor who comes every week on Wednesday. John usually stays with us from 10am until 5pm, and enjoys catching up with his friends, eating lunch in our dining room, gardening and a nap in his room especially arranged for our day care residents.

John’s hobby and passion is gardening and we were delighted when he offered to help enhance our garden here. Living close by in a village called Ebrington near Chipping Campden, John grows his own plants, flowers and vegetables in his own greenhouse and has become our very own green fingered expert.

John also kindly brings some of his surplus plants in to brighten up our garden. Years of experience and knowledge from his gardening books, which he loves to read, helps him stay agile both mentally and physically and he makes our garden look beautiful. John brings his tools with him every week; fork, spade and a few others and is always keen to pick up his trowel. This activity gives John a lot of benefits, keeps him active and occupied and Sheila, John’s wife is very supportive, helping him to carry the plants, tools and other materials he needs.

Julie Twidle, Home Manager said

“John really enjoys and values the time he spends here as he gets to socialise with our residents, gets out and we all enjoy the fruits of his labour in our beautiful garden. Having become part of our extended family here at Mill House, John now also stays for a respite when his wife goes away for a week or two as he feels very comfortable and welcomed here.”
