East Hill House enjoy Royal Wedding Celebrations

On Saturday 19th May, at East Hill House care home in Liss, we were delighted to open our doors and welcome our residents, guests and members of our local community to come and join us for a Royal Wedding themed Afternoon Tea Party to celebrate the nuptials of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

We started off the day with our residents and their families eagerly gathered in the lounge to watch the ceremony on the television. There were lots of animated conversations in the lead up to the event itself with recollections of past royal events, their own weddings and celebrations and speculation on what would happen, who they would see on the guest list and of course, what would the dress look like.

When the ceremony started, the room went silent as everyone took in the spectacle and watched the emotional ceremony unfold. There were even a few happy tears shed as it brought back some very happy memories. Everyone agreed Meghan looked stunning and Harry very dashing in his uniform.

There were even a few surprises as the event involved less traditional elements such as a gospel choir and a preacher which sparked off more debate.

As this was such a special occasion, we hosted a Royal Wedding themed Afternoon Tea Party on our decking. The day was absolutely glorious and we all enjoyed the sunshine and the view of our beautiful gardens.

Our Head Chef and team created a delicious and royal buffet lunch and afternoon tea with champagne and Pimm’s. There was even a home made wedding cake. A glass or two was raised in honour of the event sending the couple best wishes on this special day.

Sam Booty, Home Manager said:

“It was a great occasion and one worth celebrating.  It was lovely to watch the ceremony unfold with our residents and families and then welcome more guests to join us for our afternoon tea party.”

“We all agreed the wedding was very moving and it brought us all together reminiscing and sharing our thoughts and memories of past times. We all had a fabulous time with delicious food and refreshments but most of all, great company and a chance to enjoy spending time with our loved ones and friends.”
