East Hill House Care Home Shortlisted At National Dementia Care Awards For Best Activities Coordinator

East Hill House’s Wellbeing Co-ordinator and Deputy Manager Charlene Rosewarne has her fingers crossed for success after being shortlisted in the National Dementia Care Awards.

Charlene, who works at East Hill House in Liss, part of the Caring Homes family of care homes, is one of the finalists for Best Activities Co-ordinator for People Living with Dementia Award.

Charlene has worked at East Hill since she was 15 and worked in the kitchens, moving on to a carer role and then senior carer before taking time out to raise her own family. She has embraced the wellbeing role and leads the whole team to provide an excellent variety of activities which revolve around the residents and their needs.

These include;

  • Caring Homes five a day weekly lifestyle schedule
  • Charlene has registered her new puppy Luna and three residents with ‘pets as therapy’ scheme and they all enjoy visiting other care homes and hospitals
  • Weekly school visits with residents for the children to practise their reading
  • Encouraging staff and local community to bring their children in for family-based activities in school holidays and after school for the residents to enjoy watching and reminiscing
  • Last minute BBQ’s and live music at the home, making the most of any cheaper entertainment from cancellations or offers
  • Scrap books are made for individual residents of photos as a visual keepsake of the memories being made – this is also a lovely talking point for visitors and keepsake of their positive wellbeing whilst living at East Hill House
  • Successfully fundraising currently amounting to more than 10k to purchase the residents a new innovative technology interactive table
  • Charlene has encouraged the team, relatives and residents to volunteer once a month to run a monthly support group for younger adults and their loved ones at East Hill House working with the Alzheimer’s Society in Petersfield
  • Charlene organised East hill House to launch Dementia Friendly Liss in October 2018, where she secured over 20 local businesses to take the pledge in becoming dementia friendly businesses to help support not only their own residents whilst out in the community but other living locally with dementia
  • In June 2019 East Hill House was asked by Hampshire Care association to run syndicate sessions at their annual training day to celebrate and share their best practise on how they keep their resident lives fulfilled and skills maintained whilst living in a care home.

Charlene said, “I am delighted to have been shortlisted for the second year running for this award, it is a reflection of all the good work which we do here at East Hill House for people living with dementia. We all have our fingers crossed for a win.”

The National Dementia Care Awards is an annual event organised by The Journal of Dementia Care, a multidisciplinary journal for all professional staff working with people with dementia, in hospitals, nursing and residential care homes, day units and the community.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely

Paul Jeffery – Chief Executive Officer

Frank Cummins – Clinical Director
