Denham Manor honour the fallen

A special ‘poppy’ was planted in Flanders fields on Armistice Day this year on behalf of everyone at Denham Manor, near Aylesbury, in return for a donation.

The handwritten message on the reverse of the card, held out by Denham resident Agnes Mercer, reads ‘We live you died, you fought we cried, sunrise to sunset, Denham will never forget’.

Home Manager Julie Twidle said “Remembrance Day is always a landmark occasion for our home and the residents. We wanted to ensure we marked this with a special tribute event for everyone here at Denham Manor and we felt that the ‘poppy’ planting was a mark of respect for those who lost their lives during the war and to honour our residents as some of them were in the war themselves.

This week’s events have been very poignant and gave residents, relatives and staff the chance to remember those who gave their lives in World War One.”
