Dementia Training at Belmont House

Three staff at Belmont House in Sutton have successfully completed their City and Guilds award this week. In the picture left to right Wendy Sexton, Sally Anne Layton, Kerry Taylor.

A dedicated dementia training programme ‘Living in My World’ has been developed by Caring Home for colleagues and accredited by City & Guilds.

‘Living in my World’ is specialist dementia care training created to help carers understand how those with dementia see the world, with the intention of increasing understanding on how individuals can be best supported. The programme aims to ensure that through developing colleagues, the care that is provided is of a high standard putting the individual at the heart of everything that we do, not only in terms of the ‘day to day’ care but also by each Home being ‘Well Led’ by its Manager.

The whole team at Belmont House will receive this ‘Living in My World’ training, giving them an understanding of the condition and how to make a positive impact on the people in their care. The team at Belmont believe everyone should have an awareness of dementia to understand what life is like for those living with the condition and understand how loved ones can be affected and supported.

There has also been a lot of interest from friends and families about this training programme. We now offer a new practical level called ‘Experience my World’, where colleagues, friends and families can step into the world of those living with dementia. If you are interested in coming along to a session to help increase your awareness and understanding about a loved ones condition please contact us and we can let you know when the next session will be taking place.

Well done to Wendy, Sally and Kerry!
