Cranmer Court’s Gardening Fun Day

Cranmer Court held a Gardening Fun Day this weekend to provide some overdue tender loving care to the gardens.

Members of our team and visitors came along to help out, many bringing other family members with them. Everyone worked exceptionally hard in the blazing sun and the achievements were fantastic.

Residents were actively involved in the day. In the morning they sat in the garden under the shade of the gazebo and potted plants which were then distributed around the garden; we look forward to seeing them fill out as the beautiful plants mature and provide explosions of colour. In the afternoon the residents had a more relaxed time watching the children play and the adults dig!

The catering team provided refreshments throughout the day to keep everyone hydrated in the hot weather. They also provided a BBQ in the afternoon to re-energize everyone and to say thank you for the hard work.

One of the volunteers from the day, Graham, wanted us to share his story. He had emergency heart surgery three months ago, at which point he turned to Cranmer Court for an urgent placement for his wife, Hazel, who is living with dementia, as he is her sole carer. Hazel settled in well at Cranmer Court, and Graham himself was admitted here for convalescence a week or so after his surgery following his discharge from hospital. Graham spent two months in the care of Cranmer Court before being well enough to be discharged back home. Hazel is now staying with us for the foreseeable future and Graham visits her for lunch every day.

Just two weeks after being discharged from Cranmer Court, Graham played an active part in our gardening fun day. He set to work trimming overgrown brambles from a rhododendron bush which was previously hidden – no mean feat! We hope that now the rhododendron bush is no longer overtaken by brambles it will thrive and produce beautiful flowers. Graham and Hazel have truly become part of the Cranmer Court family and we are incredibly grateful for Graham’s contributions.

Now that the main beds have been cleared work will begin on re-planting them. We look forward to having a more varied and colourful display which everyone can enjoy.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
