Cranmer Court brings the seaside to Surrey

The great British weather has certainly lived up to its reputation this summer, but staff at Cranmer Court in Surrey weren’t going to let a little rain put them off a ‘trip’ to the seaside.

The home was decorated with palm trees, coconuts and parrots, all made by the residents. The activity room was turned into an underwater world complete with sea creatures and sea weed. Staff and residents dressed in beach attire to get into the spirit of the day.

There was a paddling pool for dipping toes into, complete with fish and ducks, a coconut shy, ring the bottle and staff even had some sand brought in so that the everyone could build sandcastles.

Activities Coordinator Angela spent a long time making sure the day was a hit:

‘We all had such a great day and it proved that you don’t have to rely on the weather to have a great time. The residents particularly enjoyed the homemade candyfloss but we also ate traditional cockles, sticks of rock and ice creams. Everyone enjoyed the ‘beach volleyball’ and sang sea shanties. We’ll definitely be bringing the outside in again!’

The day was topped off by a short trip to Banstead to see the beautiful ‘sea of lavender’ and enjoy a spot of afternoon tea.

Cranmer Court is an attractive modern, purpose-built care home, providing residential and nursing care for up to 62 elderly people. Located on Farleigh Common, near Warlingham, Cranmer Court was Caring Homes’ first purpose built care home in Surrey and benefits from the highest standards of both design and operation
