CQC success at Coppice Lea

Staff at Coppice Lea Care Home in Merstham were celebrating this week as they received top marks in their latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Following a review of the inspection process in recent years, five areas of the business are now inspected which assess how well the service is treating people covering respect, quality of care provision, safeguarding and safety, staffing and management of the service.

The home has achieved the highest possible levels of care delivery having met the required standards in all of the above areas.

As part of the process, CQC inspectors spoke to residents, relatives and members of staff. The home demonstrated full compliance in all areas with special mention made of the care planning and communication channels within the home. Residents and their relatives are heavily involved in all aspects of the home, with the home’s ‘Relatives Committee’ including the planning of activities, which are run on a four-weekly programme and encompasses in-house activities, external trips and community events.

Coppice Lea Manager, Raj Boodhoo commented:

“We are delighted that the hard work done each and every day by our team has been recognised through this excellent report. I have only been in post for a number of months and it is clear that this is a tightly knit staff unit.

First and foremost Coppice Lea is our residents home. It is a pleasure to provide a service for so many wonderful people, but it is always nice to hear that you’re getting things right!”

Coppice Lea is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery. The Victorian home provides residential and nursing care for up to 50 elderly ladies and gentlemen in the quiet village of Merstham overlooking the South Downs.
