Coxhill Manor bid a fond farewell to Jacky

Coxhill Manor are bidding a fond farewell to a member of our care team, Jacky Hussey is retiring after an amazing 29 years of service here at our care home in Woking Surrey.

Since 1988, Jacky has been a familiar and friendly face on the nightshift. She has seen a lot of change over her years at Coxhill Manor and has seen it grow from the original Manor House where four residents would share one room to how we know Coxhill Manor today.

Manager Alan described Jacky as very focused on the residents – a prime advocate for residents and our night staff.  He said
‘She’s like Jiminy Cricket – the conscience of Coxhill Manor, who stops us from becoming complacent.”
A compliment indeed!

Jacky didn’t have to think twice when asked what she will miss most about Coxhill Manor… ‘The residents’.  She loved the rapport she had with them, discovering all the things they had in common and building relationships.

One of her favourite things about working at Coxhill Manor were the Garden Parties where she could really join in the fun and get to know resident’s families.   Jacky also loved Christmas time at Coxhill and would always be a regular at the Carol Service.  She said it’s always nice to see the residents faces when they see her in her ‘civvies’, as they are so used to seeing her in her uniform!

Jacky’s time here at Coxhill Manor has been somewhat of a family affair. All her family have worked here at some point over the years.  Jacky’s husband spent a period here on the maintenance team, while her daughters have worked in the kitchen during University holidays, and her son has even helped in the car park for our Garden Parties.

Jacky was also a key member of Coxhill Manor’s ‘Staff Engagement Team’.  A role that suited her very much as she gets on so well with the team and residents alike.  Sandra Stock described her as a very proactive colleague with lots of ideas.  She really enjoyed working with her and is going to miss her on the team.

Jacky’s last shift was February 15th and a farewell party was enjoyed on 21st February to give all our residents a chance to say goodbye and thank you.  Jacky penned the following poem and shared it at the party.

Jacky’s Poem

Many years ago when I came into care
I’d never done this work before I’d nothing to compare
Straight away I liked the job I knew it was for me
The caring and the looking after it was not all cake and tea.

My colleagues work so very hard
We never see much light,
Because we’re prowling round the corridors
In the middle of the night.

This is a job that’s a two-way street
And I’ve been lucky with people I meet
A home filled with the older generation
A great experience and fantastic conversation.

I’ve met interesting, grumpy, clever and unique
Entertaining, fussy and also very sweet
I’ve taken on board all your good advice
But now it’s time I step into a different life

I wanted to care, make you happy and content
And everything I have done for you was sincerely meant
I love you all and that’s no lie
But sadly now it’s time to say goodbye.

Jacky plans to spend her time doing the things she loves, yoga, spending time with her family, catching up on some sleep and is looking forward to spending more time working in her 200 foot garden!

We are all very sad to say goodbye to a much loved member of the Coxhill Manor family, but wish Jacky every happiness in her retirement and we hope it won’t be too long before she pops back to see us.
