Cookie making at Magna

Residents at Magna nursing home in Wimborne had a sensory afternoon with cookie dough.

As a nation that tends to enjoy baking and cakes, queue ‘Cup Cake day’, ‘Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning’ and of course ‘Great British Bake Off’, studies have shown that baking therapy can be an effective way to help encourage eating. Baking can stimulate the senses and be an effective way for people to enjoy food. The sound of the blender, the feel of the flour and dough, and of course the smell of the delicious cakes and cookies.

The lovely chef Joe made chocolate dough, whilst the ladies thoroughly enjoyed rolling and cutting the shapes out. The simple and repetitive activity that comes with baking can help eliminate stress, rolling and kneading the dough, cutting out with cutters, the repetition allows you to blank your mind whilst he kneading and rolling can get rid of any additional energies.

Creating the lovely cookies and decorating at the end is very pleasing and the residents felt a real accomplishment when it came to the tasting session. There was a lot of positive feedback.

The Magna nursing home in Wimborne is a stunning Care Centre providing residential and specialist nursing care for up to 63 elderly residents.
