Claydon work with puppets

As a regular part of our activity programme at Claydon House in Lewes we spend Wednesday mornings working together in our puppet workshop. Under the guidance of one of our activity staff Jolita, residents and staff retell several famous stories including this week’s offering which was the story of Icarus.

Sometimes the residents make puppets with Jolita but for this particular story the puppets were ones that Jolita had made and was “recycling” by changing the costumes.

The residents enjoy making a sun and paper aeroplanes to enhance the story further. After they had used the puppets to act out the story together they then flew their planes to see whose plane would fly closest to the sun.

Our puppet workshops are a regular feature in our activity programme as we find that the residents love to take on different personas changing their voices and their body language to fit the different characters. Many of our residents living with dementia find communication with a person difficult but will quite happily talk to  the puppet or act as them.

At Claydon House we provide residential, nursing and dementia care. We continuously improve the lives of our residents through offering wide ranging services, activities and events, both in and outside of the home involving members of our local community as often as possible.
