Classic Car Show at Coxhill Manor

On Saturday 24th March, we held our first ever Classic Car Show at Coxhill Manor Care Home with Nursing near Chobham, and what a day to remember.

Resident Marcia’s son in law, Steve collects classic cars. He and his wife kindly offered to get a few friends together to bring their cars over to Coxhill Manor to create a mini classic car show for the residents. Who could refuse such an amazing offer?

The classics started arriving at 1pm ready for a 1.30pm start. They parked all the beautiful classic cars on the circular driveway around the fountain at the entrance to Coxhill Manor.

There was a Rolls Royce Shadow 2, a Bentley, a Triumph TR3B, a Willys American Jeep, a Mini Metro to name a few and of course no classic car show would be complete without a bright red Ferarri.

The driver’s enthusiasm and knowledge made the day – as they educated everyone about each car and answered all questions. The residents sat in the cars and listened to the sounds of the engines. Residents even sounded the siren on the American jeep. They opened bonnets so everyone could see the engines.

The organiser bought a green MG to the show – which was actually a resident’s parents car, so it held a lot of happy memories for her.

The blue Triumph TR3B was a definite favourite with the ladies – while the men just loved them all. Resident Roy sat in the Rolls Royce for a picture. He said he had been a passenger in a Rolls Royce before, but had always wanted to sit in the driver’s seat. His wish came true!

Ann was thrilled she had touched a Ferrari and a Bentley and was keen to have her photo taken with the cars. While Jack spent a lot of time at the American Jeep as he has actually drove one of these very jeeps in the war. Fred and his family enjoyed every minute – in fact it was quite a surprise as to just how many residents loved classic cars. There was no shortage of helping hands and interest from all everyone at Coxhill Manor. It was a wonderful day for everyone.

We would like to say a huge Thank You to Steve for organising such a perfect day for us all. A day we won’t forget!
