Christmas celebrations at Home of Compassion

Christmas was a busy time for the residents of Home of Compassion in Thames Ditton, with plenty of exciting festive events going on at the home.

On the morning of Friday 16th December, the residents and staff were given a real treat with a performance from Thames Ditton Junior School choir. Thirty four children entertained their audience with a great range of carols which echoed around the beautiful grand surroundings of Home of Compassion.

In the afternoon the residents were joined by their families and locals to enjoy some delicious home-made mulled wine, mince pies and cakes.

On Tuesday 20th December, four children from St Pauls Catholic School in Thames Ditton brought in some delicious cakes that they had made for the residents and care team. Everyone enjoyed chatting to the children, and there were also some nail biting games of dominoes to round off an enjoyable day.

On the morning of Wednesday 21st December, local vicar Andrew Cowie from St. Nicholas Church held a Christmas Service at the home. In the afternoon, Home of Compassion held their annual Christmas Party which was well attended by the local community and relatives. The hospitality team laid on some delicious cakes and cream teas, with mulled wine and hot drinks. Activity coordinators Sash Fentiman and Caroline Mwakireti organised some party games which everyone enjoyed late into the afternoon.

Home manager Avril Jones said “Christmas is really important to us at Home of Compassion and we know that everyone has memories associated to this special time of year. The residents really enjoyed the constant flow of guests to our home and the various activities. For me it was personally very special to hear our residents singing carols together and talking afterwards about what they remember about the songs they were singing.

Thank you to everyone who came along especially the pupils from Thames Ditton Junior School, St Pauls Catholic School and local vicar Andrew Cowie. We love being part of the community here in Thames Ditton – our doors are always open.”
