Christmas Carol Service at Coxhill Manor

Coxhill Manor celebrated the festive season in true traditional style yesterday when we hosted an evening Carol Service at our home, led by Revd Chris Bedford and members of our local church, St Lawrence, in Chobham.

Residents, family members and friends gathered in the conservatory from about 6.30pm and enjoyed chatting over sausage rolls, mince pies and of course mulled wine prepared by our fabulous chefs Richard, Rob and Monica.  We were delighted at the attendance as it was a full house and we are very grateful we have a large conservatory to host such events!

Chris Bedford kicked off proceedings at 7pm supported by his group of 15 singers, an accordion and last but not least, a selection of Santa hats!

We were all given pre-prepared carol sheets so we could all sing a long too.   However, a lot of our residents know the carols off by heart so the words are just a prompt.   The carols were interspersed with three bible readings focusing on the birth of Jesus.  As was Chris’s intentions, the readings gave the Carol Service more depth and meaning, which was lovely and very meaningful for our residents who are unable to attend a Church Carol Service at this time of year.

Everyone joined in as we sang a selection of favourite well known carols, from ‘Away in a Manger’ to ‘The Holly and The Ivy’ and ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’.    There was even the opportunity for requests, which ensured everyone’s favourite carol was sung so no one missed out on hearing their own personal song.

Chris and the choir mingled and chatted with us all after the concert, making it a very personal experience for everyone.  Everyone really enjoyed this event and not only was it a heart-warming and special experience, the health benefits are there as well as an hours singing is also good exercise for the lungs.

From all at Coxhill Manor, we would like to give special thanks to Alan our Manager, Luke Porter and our lovely carers who ensured our residents comfort and the smooth running of the evening.
