Care, dignity and kindness at Tall Trees

Tall Trees care home, in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, has been praised in its latest CQC inspection report for providing a dignified, person-centred, happy and safe place to live.

The home was rated as providing a ‘good’ care service in all areas in the inspection which took place in April. Staff at the home in Shipton under Wychwood were seen to demonstrate best practice in their approach to care, treatment and support.

People feel safe and well cared for at the home. A resident told inspectors:
“I love it here, I feel very happy and safe.”

A relative added;
“I feel that my mother is very safe here. I would not leave her here if I did not feel that she was in good hands and I was not happy with the home.”

Part of the Caring Homes Group, Tall Trees is a care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 60 people.

The CQC praised the home, saying that peoples’ needs were assessed before arrival and then regularly revisited to reflect any changes. One resident said; “I like reminiscing, because I can re-live my memories, like going on my motorbike. It is nice to have people to chat to.”

The report continues, saying there was a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere throughout the inspection and staff were caring and attentive to residents, valuing them as individuals and treating them with kindness and dignity. It was clear that the manager promoted a caring, person-centred culture that respected and valued residents, relatives and staff. Staff felt valued, well managed and were encouraged to share their opinions and ideas.

Michelle Little, Home Manager, said:
“At our previous inspection in February 2016 we were given improvements to make and the team here at Tall Trees has worked extremely hard since then to ensure we are providing the best possible care.

“At Caring Homes we want to ensure that our home is just that – a caring home and we are all delighted at the praise we have received from the CQC inspectors following this latest report and that we have now been ranked as good in every category.”

To find out about life at Tall Trees the inspection team spoke with seven residents and two relatives, the registered manager, regional manager, chef, activities coordinator, two nurses and six other members of the care team. They also studied care records, medicines records and other records relating to the management of the home.
