Care and consideration at Sundridge Court

The team at Sundridge Court nursing home in Bromley have been praised in the home’s latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection report for providing first class care for their residents.

Part of the Caring Homes Group Sundridge Court, in the attractive residential area of Sundridge Park, provides residential and nursing care of the very highest standard for up to 28 elderly residents. The home was rated good overall in the inspection which took place in November. It is the second successive time the home has received a Good overall rating from the CQC.

Residents told the team they were treated with care and consideration, one person said; “The staff exert supreme care when supporting residents.”
Another said; “They are all lovely, they look after me very well,” while a relative added; “The have people’s care in their hearts.”
Inspectors were told that residents felt safe and their needs were met. A resident told them: “The staff are available whenever I need help.” Another added; “The staff know me and they know what they are doing.”

The inspection team observed staff interacting with residents showing concern and care for people’s wellbeing. The atmosphere in the home was seen to be relaxed and friendly and people were treated with dignity and respect.

People received care and support which met their individual needs and preferences. One said; “I’m very happy here, the staff know my routine.”
Residents were encouraged to maintain their independence. One said; “I don’t need help with everything, the staff are happy letting me get on with it and will only help me when I need it.”

Staff received training in equality and diversity and worked to meet people’s diverse needs. One team member said; “The training I’ve had makes me feel competent. I always put myself forward for new things as it gives me a better understanding of the needs of the residents.”
The care team talked positively about the working culture at the home and the inspection team observed staff working well as a team. The team were seen to share the Caring Homes vision to provide a home where people felt safe, respected and cared for with love.

A member of the care team said; “It’s great working with the residents and getting to know them and their routines. It doesn’t take long to learn the way they like to be supported.”

Another added; “I love my work and the fact that I make a positive difference to the residents’ lives.”

The food at Sundridge Court was also praised during the inspection and residents were supported to maintain a balanced diet. During the inspection kitchen staff were observed speaking with residents and their relatives about meeting their mealtime preferences. The dining atmosphere was relaxed and people were able to eat at their own pace.

One resident said; “The food here is first class.” Another added; “The food is very good, we get a choice and there’s plenty of it.”

Home Manager Theresa Afodume said: “At Caring Homes we want to ensure that our home is just that – a caring home. “Here at Sundridge Court we are all delighted at the praise we have received from the CQC inspectors following our latest inspection and that we have achieved a Good overall rating.”

At Sundridge Court we provide residential and nursing care for up to 28 elderly people. We continuously improve the lives of our residents through offering wide ranging activities and events both in and outside of the home, involving members of the local community as often as possible.
