Bradbury House Residents stir up a treat at Tutti

Residents from Bradbury House, Braintree, visited the award-winning Italian restaurant, Tutti Grille on 2 December to cook-up some delicious festive Christmas puddings. The residents took-part in their own ‘Bake-Off’ with the help of schoolchildren from the nearby Alec Hunter Humanities College.

Eight schoolchildren took part in the Christmas pudding bake-off and joined Bradbury House’s residents as part of five teams to create the perfect pud. Everyone was taught how to make the perfect Xmas pud by Tutti’s chef. The schoolchildren gathered all of the ingredients, whilst residents were in charge of the mixing bowl. Here mixed fruit, breadcrumbs, flour, butter, eggs, milk and seasonal spices were added to the mix. The teams worked well together and had soon created fine looking dishes.

Margaret Thake a resident at Bradbury House, said: “My helpers were lovely boys and were very good. It’s been a really lovely time I’ve enjoyed it.”

Once the Christmas puddings were complete, Bradbury House’s residents thanked the schoolchildren by handing them a special chocolate Santa. The puddings were gifted to Bradbury House for all residents and colleagues to enjoy.

Organising the event was Managing Director of Tutti Grille, Rob Reeley, he says: “I thought it would be a good idea to give the children and care home residents a special day together in the lead up to Christmas. It was lovely to see the residents of Bradbury House sharing traditions. One young girl had never heard of a sixpence being put into a pud, but the residents were keen to tell her she would have been very lucky to have found it!”

Jolene Anderson, Home Manager, Bradbury House, says: “Our residents really enjoyed taking part in this extra special cookery lesson. The children were wonderful with our residents and everyone had a lovely time. We would like to thank Tutti Grille for making this happen”.
