Australia Day at Mill House

On 26th Of January Australians celebrate their national day – Australia Day – with fun in the sun. It is a designated public holiday with hundreds of small and large events taking place across the nation. In Sydney, thousands of people gather along Sydney Harbour foreshore for the celebrations on the water. In towns and cities there are community breakfasts, beach parties, corroborees and concerts, parades and pageants, sporting events, cultural and historic exhibitions and fireworks displays. Citizenship ceremonies are held to welcome new residents. It’s a day for Australians to celebrate everything that’s great about being Australian.

Why did we celebrate at Mill House ?
A few of our residents have got family in Australia and some lived and worked there for many years. Kath (lady in pink top) has her son – Michael over in Australia as he lives and work there, also Kath’s grandchildren grew up there. Kath has visited Perth a few times as that is where her family now lives.
David’s daughter Catherine also lives in Australia with family, she comes back to the UK a few times a year to see David.

Celebrating Australia Day was a fantastic idea to help stir memories of travels and family. Regular activity is extremely beneficial to our residents as they help keep them involved in the world around them and exercises their brain. There was a choice of activity for everyone if they wanted to get involved. The activities we planned for the day included an Australian Quiz, reading facts about Australia and making an Aussie themed bunting. Residents have also been painting and colouring Australia themed pages.

We have all learnt quite a lot interesting things and will definitely be celebrating Australia Day again next year!

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
