Amy celebrates at Bradbury

Staff and residents at one of our Essex Care homes helped one of our longest standing residents to celebrate her 87th birthday recently.

Amy Webber has been living at Bradbury House in Braintree for over 11 years and Manager Nikki Leaney told us about the incredible progress Mrs Webber has made since she moved in over a decade ago.

‘Before Mrs Webber moved into to Bradbury House, she suffered from a serious stroke and was very frail.  She had limited mobility and her impaired speech meant that she was unable to communicate effectively.  Understandably, all of this meant that she was in a very fragile state of mind and felt very low.  But soon after she arrived, Mrs Webber began to put on weight and started to enjoy life again and now we find any excuse to have a party as she loves to be made a fuss of!

Last year, we had a party to celebrate her 10th anniversary at Bradbury house and last month we celebrated her 87th birthday.  Mrs Webber loves to listen to music from the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s (and a man in uniform!) so we hired a singer to come to the home and sing all the old hits dressed in an army uniform.  The chef also made a special cake in the shape of a teddy bear as she loves cuddly animals.

When she was younger, Mrs Webber was in the Women’s Land Army and the Timber Corps mainly working in the fields so in 2009 I applied to DEFRA to see if we could get her an unsung hero medal.  The application was successful which gave us another reason to celebrate.  A local Councillor came in to present her with her medal and then we had a big army themed party with all of her family and friends.

Mrs Webber is a true testament to how good quality care can improve a person’s life and we look forward to caring for Mrs Webber for many more years to come.’

Located in the heart of the historic town of Braintree, Bradbury House is the very first home in the Caring Homes family. The home dates in part from the 17th century and, following a comprehensive and sympathetic conversion, retains many original features whilst also providing an outstanding residential care setting.
