Abseiling for Charity – Gildawood Court

Sue from Gildawood Court care home in Nuneaton is braving the elements, facing her fears and planning to abseil from her Church tower, which is over 80 foot high on 10th September.

Her Church is holding a fun day and part of the activities being offered on the day is for members of the congregation and the general public the opportunity to take part, or should we say take the leap, and raise funds for their chosen charity.

Although Sue is scared of heights and also suffers from vertigo, she has bravely put her name forward to do this and will be the oldest participant at nearly 70 years old. Sue is being sponsored by her family, members of her church as well as Gildawood team members to raise money for a Project in Kenya which is called Kiandutu, which comes under TABS International which stands for Together, Achieving, Believing, Sustaining.

Kiandutu is a village on the outskirts of Thika 50 kms north of Nairobi. They started raising money back in 2008 to help these people from the slums. In that time they have built a church, a school for the orphaned children who eat and sleep there, and raised a vegetable garden. The school had about 20 children then, but to date they now have 252 children who are desperate to have education who also receive a nutritious lunch every day.

They are trying to raise £30.000 to enable them to buy a plot of land next door so that they can have a bigger school, a health centre, a playground for the children to play in, another vegetable patch, a Volunteer and training centre, along with an orphanage, and a Hostel.

We wish you well Sue and hope you raise lots of funds for this great cause.
