A personal reflection by resident Kathleen at Knowle Park

At 105 years of age Kathleen is the second oldest resident at Knowle Park Nursing Home. This charmingly kind and sophisticated lady is an inspiration to the staff and residents, so we took the opportunity to find out a little more about Kathleen’s experience.

How did you first find out about Knowle Park Nursing Home?
“Well you see my daughter was going away for a couple of weeks so she felt it would be best to find somewhere to stay where I could be looked after. She found Knowle Park and decided it would be suitable. I thought it was a delightful place and enjoyed my two week stay. Four years later I made the decision to move here permanently.”

What qualities made you choose Knowle Park Nursing Home?
“On that first stay I found when you ring the bell you apologise for troubling them” (the staff) “but they say, ‘that’s what I’m here for’, really nothing is any trouble for them, they are all so kind… I really can’t think of a single one of them that isn’t!”

Now you are here how do you feel about Knowle Park Nursing Home?
“It is a delightful place, I shouldn’t think there is another place as good as this.”

Are there any specific ways that Knowle Park Nursing Home helps you to create and maintain friendships?
“Oh a lot! The way it is, it encourages you to speak to others. It is a very good idea that they have allowed us to continue our weekly scrabble group right here; it’s very important to keep your brain active! My visitors are always offered a cup of tea. It is so thoughtful that the staff come to my room to let me know if there are activities I might enjoy.”

Would you recommend it to others, and if so why?
“Most definitely! A lot of thought and care goes in to everything, and nothing is any trouble.”

What could be done at Knowle Park Nursing Home to further your satisfaction and/or wellbeing?
“Well sometimes I find the meat can be a little tough, I have to cut it up quite a lot. Perhaps if they can do it slower and longer that would be good.”

These comments were passed to the catering department and Head Chef Andy responded saying…

“Thank you for your feedback Kathleen, we endeavour to please all residents and will certainly bare that in mind when planning future meat dishes.”

One of Kathleen’s favourite sayings is: “there is no such word as ‘Can’t’…you try”.
