A day at the seaside for Coxhill

Staying in true English ‘day at the seaside’ form, the weather was cloudy and grey with light showers, but it was no cause for concern as we followed in suit from our marvelous generation of residents at Coxhill Manor nursing home in Woking, who pathed the way with ‘Keep Calm And Carry On’.  We did just that!

With the house decorated throughout, including bunting crafted by our residents, very proudly hung in the living room, it didn’t take long for everyone to pile in ready for our day at the seaside starting off with Nigel Dawson’s spectacular ‘seaside talk.’

Making use of the projector screen, Mr. Dawson had no trouble grabbing our attention starting his talk about the seaside days from when the residents were kids. It was wonderful to see faces lighting up as happy memories of windy days by the seaside filled the room. Many residents were more than willing to engage and share stories as we watched how seaside holidays evolved through the years. A ‘We’re all going on a summer holiday,’ sing along wrapped the morning up nicely leaving everyone in high spirits as they went to lunch.

Residents and their families enjoyed lunch and a classic 99’ from the ice cream van that pulled up outside playing the familiar ‘Ice Cream van chimes we all recognise .  A real treat!

The Summer BBQ saw our first ever performance form our newly established Coxhill Choir. All  members of the choir proudly wore a red rose.    Our big event was certainly a hit! With curiosity and anticipation from our residents, we had a stunning turn out of an audience for our 15 member ‘Coxhill Choir.’ Lots of preparation and hard work paid off with resounding cheer, encouragement and applause. Our Manager Alan described the choir as, “Awesome!” He went on to say how they have tried on multiple occasions to form a Coxhill Choir without any luck and is delighted with the success of it. The self esteem and meaningful high that has evolved for the members of the choir is clear as day, we even had a couple of residents request to join the choir after the performance. This is just the beginning!

We ended the ‘Day At The Seaside,’ with a fantastic raffle assisted by resident, Doug’s, two lovely granddaughters, not everyone took home a prize but we all felt like winners that day.
