Parris Lawn is a new purpose-built care home where every thought has been given to your loved one’s care and comfort.
Our home is named after Frederick Parris, a renowned cricketer who played for Sussex, who was born in Ringmer in 1867. While the home’s name has a foot in the past, the building itself offers the latest in care and comfort.
Relax in beautiful surroundings
Each of the home’s 62 bedrooms is individually-styled and has an ensuite wet room. Each is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, and your loved one is welcome to personalise their space in any way they wish.
The home’s design incorporates the latest dementia-friendly design standards. There are no dead-ends or blank walls, which can cause confusion. Instead, residents who like to walk around can find their way independently, without getting lost.
The emphasis at Parris Lawn is on enjoying a fantastic lifestyle. There are frequent film showings in our cinema, and residents enjoy being pampered in the hair and beauty salon. The bistro café is popular for entertaining visitors, and on warm days, our lovely gardens are ideal for a stroll or for admiring the views over the South Downs.
Supporting health and wellbeing
Our team of experienced nurses and carers are there when your loved one needs them and just around the corner when they don’t. They work in partnership with a range of community healthcare professionals who regularly visit, including GPs, occupational therapists and podiatrists. We are happy to organise any appointments that your loved one needs.
Award Winning Training
Our unique, award winning dementia training is accredited by City and Guilds
Every team member receives our unique ‘Living in My World’ dementia training which is accredited by City and Guilds. It highlights the importance of meaningful activities and a stimulating environment for people living with dementia, as well as addressing clinical aspects of care.
Living at Parris Lawn is exactly what your loved one wants it to be. They choose how to spend their day, doing as much or as little as they wish.
We get to know every person we care for as individuals, including their needs, likes and what’s important to them. When we understand a person, we can plan activities and experiences that they will love.
Our people are determined to make each day the best it can be for the people we care for. One of our team says, “I have one ambition each day, and that’s to get a smile from everybody.”
Keeping active and independent
Our thoughtful activity team ensures there’s plenty to do at Parris Lawn. Musicians and singers often come and perform for residents, and there’s a church service every Sunday. Other activities include crafts, quizzes, cheese and wine evenings and film afternoons.
Enjoying exercise and fresh air is vital for health and wellbeing, and residents look forward to the wheelchair-friendly walk with our team each morning. A small group goes swimming each week, while other residents continue to take part in community groups, including the WI. As one resident puts it, “My life is my own. I like to call it improved living, because everything is here for me if I need or want it.”
Enjoying a change of scene
Our minibus outings are very popular, whether we’re heading to the shops in Lewes, to a local museum, or the seaside for fresh air and fish and chips. We also have a private chauffeur for anyone who wishes to travel in style.
We always make sure that people who are being nursed in bed, or who simply prefer one-to-one activities, get the quality time that they deserve, whether it’s reading , doing the day’s crossword or simply having a chat.
Meal times at Parris Lawn are a chance to get together with friends over a delicious home-cooked meal.
Our chef learns about your loved one’s unique nutritional needs and preferences and makes sure these are incorporated into the regularly-updated menus. They serve up three tempting meals each day and there’s always a wide choice of dishes, including lighter option, and modified dishes for residents who need a soft, fortified or diabetic diet.
Everything is beautifully presented and full of flavour and made using fresh ingredients that are locally sourced from quality suppliers.
Dine in style
While many residents choose to eat in the dining rooms, your loved one is welcome to eat in their room if they prefer. Tables in our dining rooms are beautifully presented with place mats, cutlery, condiments, juice and water. If your loved one would like a glass of wine or other alcoholic drink, we are happy to bring it for them.
We ensure that each meal time is calm and unhurried and that your loved one is supported to eat at their own pace. We support residents to eat independently but will always provide discreet support if they need it.
Light meals, snacks and drinks are available throughout the day at Parris Lawn. If your loved one wishes to, they can also make their own drinks and snacks using the kitchenette in each dining room.
We love to see residents enjoying quality time with their relatives. You’re welcome to have a meal with your loved one at any time. Parris Lawn even has a private dining room for larger family meals and celebrations.
Our door is always open
Visitors are welcome at any time at Parris Lawn, and our bistro is also open to the public. Local groups often use the space for meetings, which gives residents another opportunity to engage with different people.
