Fundraising Fun At Parris Lawn’s Big Quiz Night

4th November 2026

This year’s World Stroke Day gave the team at Parris Lawn Care Home the perfect opportunity to host an event to raise money for a worthwhile cause, and being Parris Lawn, it also turned out to be a happy, sociable evening.

Eight Teams in Friendly Competition Fuelled By Cheese and Wine

A date for the Big Quiz was set and families, friends and neighbours from the local community were invited to join Parris Lawn residents for the event, with the opportunity to make donations to the Stroke Association along the way. Over 40 people signed up and on the evening itself, guests arrived and mingled in the lounge before assembling in their teams. Meanwhile, the home’s chefs had prepared a delicious selection of cheese, biscuits and fruit, which was served with wine to fuel the little grey cells!

Jesse, the home’s Customer Relationship Manager, was quizmaster, assisted by glamorous assistants Head of Hospitality, Sharon and Angela, Head of Wellbeing, who completely ran the show. Parris Lawn entered a team alongside seven other teams, and some real superstars were revealed as the quiz progressed until finally, after several highly entertaining rounds, the winners were declared.

Winners Look Forward to Fine Dining Experience at Parris Lawn’s Chef’s Table

Clinching first place by one point, the team named ‘John Plus 1’. Their prize was a highly sought after golden ticket, which promised seats for the whole team at a special Chefs Table – a wonderful three-course fine dining experience created by Neil, the home’s Head Chef. Chris, husband of resident Christina, was delighted to collect the prize on behalf of the team. The team in second place picked up a fabulous fruit basket, beautifully designed by Sharon, and bronze medals were handed to the third placed team, along with a bottle of wine each. And yes, a wooden spoon was presented but the identity of the recipients remains a closely guarded secret!

Sociable Evening Raises Funds for the Stroke Association

Caring Homes has a collaborative relationship the Stroke Association and the organisation has given stroke awareness training to staff in all the group’s UK care homes. Locally, Parris Lawn has formed strong links with the Stroke Association South East and holds a monthly Stroke Friendship Café. Customer Relationship Manager Jesse explained, “It’s a way of bringing together residents who are stroke survivors, their families and anyone from the local community who would benefit from meeting in a safe and welcoming environment where conversations can begin naturally”.

More generally, the team at Parris Lawn loves any opportunity to bring friends, neighbours, residents and their families together and when there’s a worthy cause to support, it makes a fun, sociable event more fulfilling. The Big Quiz night was huge success – an evening of light hearted competitiveness, friendly banter and best of all, almost £200 raised for the Stroke Association.
