From serenity to the seafront for Frethey residents

A group from one of our Somerset care homes took back to back trips recently as they explored two iconic, albeit very different locations as chosen by the residents.

The first day was spent in the serenity of Barrington Hall near Ilminster. The 16th Century Tudor Manor House, which has been owned by the National Trust since 1907 offered haunting echoes of the past with its sweeping staircases and spectacular fruit-filled kitchen gardens ripe for harvesting.

Everyone enjoyed the traditional picnic lunch, with cream soda and dandelion & burdock evoking memories for many of school trips.

Clevedon seafront was the location of choice for day two and despite some rather blustery conditions; the group enjoyed a brisk walk along the front in the morning. The weather did mean having to take shelter in the ‘Little Harp Inn’ where they enjoyed some excellent home cooked food.

The sun eventually came out later in the afternoon and a more leisurely stroll was taken past the bandstand along the promenade to round off a wonderful couple of days.

Set within the beautiful rolling Somerset countryside, Frethey House is a double-fronted Victorian House offering a full range of residential and nursing support for up to 41 elderly people.
