Whittington House Launches New Physiotherapy Space With Therapies On Thames

6th November 2025

Earlier this week, the Mayor of Cheltenham, Councillor Dr David Willingham, officially opened a new physiotherapy gym space at Whittington House.

Next Step for Physiotherapy

Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham is one of several Caring Homes currently partnering with rehabilitation specialists, Therapies on Thames.

Integrating physiotherapy into the daily lives and care plans of our residents has already resulted in many individuals becoming more physically confident. Allocating a designated space where Therapies on Thames can provide equipment and deliver a range of bespoke physiotherapy options for residents is the next step for our residents, now including those at Whittington House.

Ribbon Cut to Officially Open New Gym Space

Customer Relationship Manager, George King, organised a special launch event attended by the Mayor, who did a grand job of cutting the ribbon and declaring the physio gym space officially ‘open’. He also impressed his audience by demonstrating some arm flexes with a large hand weight!

Great Option for Residents and Members of the Local Community

Katie and Ros from Therapies on Thames had set up the space which attracted plenty of attention from team members and residents who came for a closer look.

Resident Bernard dropped by to check it out – just in time to join the official launch photo! Resident June went one further, trying out some exercise band moves with Ros, Whittington House’s regular physiotherapist. June also noticed the inflated balls in the room and commented, “The big balls to help with my balance look like a lot of fun, they could help me.” Ros remarked that the new space would enhance the physio sessions she delivers to residents, with a range of equipment set up and accessible in a spacious area that’s dedicated to physiotherapy.

In the spirit of celebration, tea, cake and fizz were served in the nearby dining room and the group was joined by residents, eager to learn about the new facility at Whittington House. Home Manager Kirsty Hopton said how delighted she was to have the physio gym up and running and added “We are proud to offer this new facility, which reflects our commitment to providing the very best for our residents' health and wellbeing through tailored, professional physiotherapy.”

In addition to the bookable sessions for Whittington House residents, time at the gym with Therapies on Thames’s expert physiotherapists can also be booked by members of the local community who may need support after a fall, injury, or operation, or would like to improve their strength and mobility.
