Benson House Team Delighted To Be Awarded Veteran Friendly Status
We’re proud to announce that Benson House is the latest of our care homes to gain Veteran Friendly accreditation after fantastic work by the team in following all the required steps.
Caring Homes has committed to achieving Veteran Friendly status as a group and as we head into 2026, we’re well on the way to our goal, with over 50% of our eligible care homes already accredited by the Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) and the final cohort making great progress.
Wonderful Achievement also a Landmark for the VFF
The achievement by Benson House is also a huge landmark for the VFF - testament to their team’s commitment, and a direct result of the support they give to all who go through the scheme.
Kathryn Glass, VFF Project Lead at Royal Star & Garter, explained: “Our congratulations go to Benson House for gaining VFF status and becoming the 300th home to achieve this. All our VFF homes have demonstrated their willingness and ability to support, understand and deliver care that's tailored to the veterans and their partners in their homes. We’re so proud to have supported 300 homes to achieve VFF status and we will celebrate this landmark in the programme. It truly is a phenomenal achievement, and we look forward to welcoming many more care homes to join the VFF family.”
Benson Team Thrilled That Hard Work Has Paid Off
The Benson House team was understandably delighted and lost no time in proudly posing for a picture with one of their resident veterans, Diana, who was a typist in the WRENS.
Customer Relationship Manager, George King, said, “This is fabulous news for the home. We’re thrilled that our hard work has resulted in the home being VFF approved and we all enjoyed the actual process, too. Our team has learned a huge amount about the armed forces and in particular, that there are more veterans out there than we had imagined”
All the Benson House veterans now have a poppy image on their doors and Pete Eldridge from the local Royal British Legion in Benson regularly visits the home for a chat with veteran residents. George has also made contact with various veterans’ charities including SSAFA (the Armed Forces charity) and the RAF Benevolent Fund, and all will be invited to a special event this spring.
Veterans’ Coffee Morning an Opportunity for Conversation and Connection
On 10th April, Benson House will be celebrating the home’s VFF status by hosting their first Veterans’ Coffee Morning where veterans’ groups from the local community will be welcome to join the home’s veteran residents for a relaxed get together. It’s the first of what we are sure will be a regular date in the diary, and a wonderful opportunity for veterans to connect positively with their identity and memories through conversations and relationships with others.
