Laverstock Continues To Thrive As Part Of The Veteran Friendly Framework

16th October 2026

The team at Laverstock was delighted to be presented with a certificate confirming their continued commitment to veterans in their care, awarded by the Veteran Friendly Framework.

Committed to Achieving VFF Accreditation and Continuing to Improve

Last year, Laverstock Care Centre in Salisbury was proud to achieve Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) accreditation and earlier this month, they successfully completed the VFF Continuous Improvement review.

The Veteran Friendly Framework offers guidance to care providers on how best to give the right support to the thousands of veterans living in care homes across England. It is a collaboration between the Royal British Legion, Royal Star & Garter and the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance.

Caring Homes is committed to achieving VFF status as a group, with each of their care homes being assessed separately, and just two of the eligible homes awaiting confirmation of their accreditation. Laverstock Care Centre was one of the first from Caring Homes to be awarded VFF status and their journey highlighted the importance of fully understanding how to care for those who have served.

Supporting Veteran Residents at Laverstock

Reflecting on their achievement, Home Manager, Erin O’Shea said, “We were delighted to gain our Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) accreditation and a year on, we are proud to be improving, developing and continuing to offer tailored support to our veteran residents. We’ve been building relationships with local veterans’ groups, including the Salisbury branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL), and our Customer Relations Manager, Emma, and Clinical Lead, Cally, recently attended their monthly meeting. We then invited RBL committee members Denise and Susan to join us at Laverstock for ‘Fish & Chips Friday’”.

Creating links between the wider veteran community and veteran residents at Laverstock is particularly important to Cally who is the wife of a veteran, and to many more of the staff who have military connections. Cally is also a member of the Salisbury and Wilton branch of the Royal Artillery Association and represents Laverstock at their meetings.

Building Relationships with Veterans in the Local Community

Laverstock has been a hive of industry recently, with three poppy displays - themed Military Weddings, Florence Nightingale and their own version of the Cenotaph – created for entry into the Care Home Remembrance Display competition, along with poppy wreaths made by residents. Judging takes place on Friday 23rd October and everyone at the care home has their fingers crossed for a favourable result!

Meanwhile, the team are selling poppies in the care home this month, then take to the road! On 29th October and 3rd November, team members and residents will be supporting the RBL by manning their poppy sales table at a local Tesco Extra store from 2.00pm - 4.00pm.

And looking further ahead, Laverstock will be hosting a special Veterans Christmas Carvery on 3rd December – a lovely way for their veteran residents and those from the local community to celebrate the festive season together.
