A Fun-Packed Festive Afternoon At Broadbridge Park’s Winter Wonderland

9th December 2025

This year’s Winter Wonderland event was six months in the planning but everything came together with fabulous festive flourish at Broadbridge Park last Saturday.

Pom-Poms and Painting – Preparation Begins Early!

The whole home started thinking about Christmas many months ago and for the staff and residents at Broadbridge Park, the work that goes into their annual Winter Wonderland event is a labour of love. Teamwork is encouraged all year round by Wellbeing Lead Donna and the Activities team and residents enthusiastically collaborated, creating pom-poms for festive wreaths, transforming toilet rolls and wool into charming woolly-hat table settings and carefully painting Christmas trees onto coasters. The result was a wonderful array of festive-inspired handiwork that was proudly presented on their stall at Winter Wonderland.

Decadent Treats and Winter Warmers

The event opened at 11am exclusively for residents and their families, then the home welcomed the wider community from 12-3.00pm. On a blustery day, the hot chocolate station was a huge hit and drinks came with a choice of indulgent toppings including cream, chocolate flakes, candy canes, and marshmallows. Broadbridge Park’s chefs pulled out all the stops, hosting a stall piled high with seasonal treats. Visitors were spoilt for choice with white chocolate and orange cookies, gingerbread cupcakes, millionaire shortbread, mince pies, gingerbread people, sausage rolls, mincemeat blondies, and chocolate brownies. It was one of the busiest stalls of the day!

Seasonal Stalls a Highlight on a Day of Festive Fun

Alongside the residents’ stall where they sold the items they had made, 18 local craft stalls joined the event, offering a wonderful selection of Christmas gifts and decorations. Among them was 14-year-old Daisy, whose crocheted animals highlighted her amazing skill and were admired by many. The raffle proved extremely popular, with tickets selling throughout the day and prizes were generously donated by the stallholders. The home was also delighted to receive an offer from one of the stallholders, who has volunteered art lessons for dementia residents at Broadbridge Park —an incredibly thoughtful gesture.

The atmosphere throughout the day was warm and joyful – full of camaraderie and community spirit. Winter Wonderland was a celebration of the season, so raising £400 for St Catherine’s Hospice made the day feel even more special – and with a summer event on a similar scale planned for 2026, residents at Broadbridge Park are sure to be getting creative with their crafting well in advance!
