Red Watch Receive Red Carpet Treatment At Tarring Manor

21st February 2024

When Tarring Manor hosted their inaugural Blue Light Breakfast, residents enjoyed a behind the scenes introduction to one of our local services.

Two shiny red fire engines sailed into the car park at Tarring Manor last week - purely a social visit, luckily, and the chance for our residents and our team to do one of their favourite things: entertain guests!

Ten firefighters from Red Watch, based at our local fire station in Worthing (part of West Sussex Fire and Rescue), emerged from the truck, led by Watch Leader Ian. They were greeted by residents Stephen and ‘Mac’, who were keen to have a closer look at the engines, as were members of the team who took a moment to pose. Everybody loves a fire engine!

Blue Light Breakfast

Treating the Red Watch team to breakfast was top of the agenda and they were joined by a group of staff and residents for delicious pastries, tea and coffee – a breakfast that went down well with the firefighters who’d started their shift early that morning. Inevitably, everyone wanted to know all about the equipment on the engine and what it gets used for!

After breakfast the Red Watch team were shown around the home and met more of our residents and staff during their tour. The walkabout also served as a fire inspection, so it was good to hear that Red Watch not only thought our home was beautiful, they also considered it fire safe.

Karen Grainger, Home Manager at Tarring was delighted to host the Red Watch Team, and pleased they’d had a proper look around the home. She added, “Knowing an emergency is handled by such a great team makes everyone feel that little bit safer and more secure within the home. We look forward to inviting them to meet us again – hopefully not because of an emergency of our own!”

This event was the first of what we hope will be regular ‘Blue Light Breakfasts’ at Tarring Manor – the chance for residents to enjoy a visit of real interest, meeting members of the local services whose aim it is to keep them safe. Our community police and PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) are next in line to receive an invitation – a chance for our curious residents find out what goes on behind the scenes on the beat!
