Special Guest Visits Whittington House Residents

11th September 2023

On a sunny Wednesday in August, Whittington House experienced a heartwarming visit that left residents and the Home's team with beaming smiles.

Poppy, a miniature dinky pony, trotted into the Whittington House Nursing Home with her owner Sarah to spend precious time with the residents who were thrilled.

Whittington House Thrill Residents

The gentle presence of the animals instantly brightened the day for everyone present. Residents' faces lit up with delight as they were able to pet and interact with the ponies. The experience of connecting with Poppy the Pony brought back some memories, with some residents sharing stories about their animals.

The therapeutic benefits of animal interactions have been shown to enhance resident’s emotional wellbeing and reduce feelings of isolation. The visit of Poppy and Sarah reminded everyone of the simple pleasures and beauty that nature can offer.

Mandy Williams, the Activity Lead at Whittington House, couldn't contain her excitement, exclaiming: "The residents had the best day ever! It was amazing to witness their reactions as Poppy trotted out into the garden. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sarah for not only brightening the residents' day, but also bringing immense joy to our team."

A Day to Remember

As Poppy and Sarah bid their farewell, the smiles on the faces of residents remained. Whittington House is always looking for ways to enhance residents’ lives, and activities such as bringing Poppy the Pony to the Home is a great example of that.
