Hillside's Residents Get Multicultural
Hillside Care Home's recently had an opportunity to taste various dishes from around the world in a celebration of multicultural diversity. The care home came alive with a vibrant blend of cultures including India, Jamaica and Poland.
With residents and members of the team at Hillside Care Home having a background of many different countries, the days brought together residents and the team in more ways than just food. From the aromatic spices of India to the soulful Jamaican dishes and hearty Polish fare, residents had some great dishes to taste.
India Takes Centre Stage
On Indian Day, Hillside's communal areas were transformed into a vibrant showcase of Indian culture. Decorated with images and the Indian national flag, it was lovely to see everyone trying the sweet and savoury snacks that were provided.
Jamaican Pride
Jamaican Day was a burst of colour and rhythm. Staff members donned the Jamaican flag's colours and filled the air with traditional and contemporary Jamaican music. The celebration concluded with a slice of delectable Jamaican ginger cake.
Polish Culinary Treasures
Polish Day was a delightful exploration of Poland's culinary heritage. Residents enjoyed an array of local delicacies, from savoury dried sausages to comforting traditional soups prepared by Hillside's chef, who’s Polish!
Maekhala Allan, Hillside's Home Manager, emphasised the significance of such celebrations, saying, "Our multicultural days embody our values of inclusivity and respect. Understanding and celebrating different cultures enriches everyone's lives."
