Easter Fun Day A Hopping Success At Blenheim Court Care Home

15th April 2025

Despite a rainy start, nothing could dampen the energy and enthusiasm at Blenheim Court’s annual Easter Fun Day, which once again brought together residents, families, and visitors for an unforgettable afternoon of fun, food, and fundraising.

Planning, Tasting, Booking and Baking

Preparation is everything before any event at Blenheim Court Care Home in Liss, so Home Manager, Sam, and her team – including Resident Ambassadors Jean and Jeremy – were planning well in advance of the big day. Local businesses kindly donated prizes for the raffle, a bouncy castle was booked, games were discussed, entertainment chosen and of course, food was very much on the agenda.

A hog roast is always popular with residents and their families but Head Chef Nathan came up with an Easter twist. A whole lamb was ordered for the spit and, as part of the care home’s celebration of Cyprus as its country of the month, Cypriot shawarma kebabs were proposed for the menu.

Meanwhile, Sam decided that the arrival of the Easter Bunny needed to be a stand-out moment and ordered a striking costume for Wellbeing Manager, Cyndi (also Sam’s sister) to wear.

Everyone was baking up a storm – there seemed to be chocolate and chocolate eggs everywhere – and final decisions needed to be made on drinks. Residents gathered in the lounge for a cocktail tasting, the idea being they would decide on the signature drink for the event, although it inevitably became a little ‘taster’ event of its own.

Music, Games and a Carrot-tastic Cocktail!

The fun kicked off at 3pm and live music set the tone for the day, with guests enjoying the sounds as they browsed a variety of local stalls, sampled homemade Easter bakes, and tried their luck at the tombola and raffle. There was something for everyone, especially when the Easter Bunny made a cheerful appearance and delighted younger guests. Adults took a shine to the signature “Carrot Cocktail” (carrot in colour only – it was made with fruit juice and prosecco), and the showstopping lamb kebabs – cooked to perfection on the spit by Head Chef Nathan – were a firm favourite.

Residents, Family, Friends and Neighbours Come Together

As always, residents were at the heart of the event with one remarking, “The effort the staff have gone to is remarkable – they never cease to amaze me”, while another added, “What a wonderful afternoon. I’ve been chatting with the stallholders who are all very nice – it’s been lovely.” Meanwhile, a relative who enjoyed some quality time with their loved one commented, I wouldn’t want to spend my Sunday afternoon anywhere else. Thank you – I’ve had such a lovely time with my mum.”

The day was a huge success, and the community spirit running through the event was reflected by a heartfelt comment from a visitor who said, “Thank you Sam, to you and your team, for bringing the community in. It means so much.”

Looking back on the day, Home Manager, Sam, reflected, “Team Blenheim Court pulled off yet another unforgettable event so a huge well done! Over £500 was raised for the residents’ fund which will go directly into enhancing future events and community projects. To staff, volunteers, and visitors alike - you’ve made this Easter weekend truly special.”

Rain or shine, Easter Fun Day continues to be one of the highlights of the year at Blenheim Court and 2025 was no exception!
