Blenheim Court's Annual Memory Fundraising Walk for Alzheimer's Awareness

26th September 2023

On a beautiful early September day, the team and residents at Blenheim Court Care Home gathered under the warm sun to embark on their annual Memory Walk. While donning their walking boots, everyone was joined by some of the local community in a heartwarming display of unity and support for the Alzheimer's Society as part of the International Campaign for World Alzheimer's Month.

Blenheim Court Care Home Raise Alzheimer's Awareness

The Memory Walk team set off for a meaningful journey to Petersfield Heath. This annual Memory Walk, a cherished tradition at Blenheim Court Care Home, serves as both a fundraising event and a poignant reminder of the importance of Alzheimer's awareness.

The International Campaign for World Alzheimer's Month, running since 2012, seeks to shed light on Alzheimer's disease and challenge the stigma surrounding it. Blenheim Court's initiative is a shining example of how communities can come together to make a difference. The Alzheimer's Society is committed to their research programme as they focus on improving care for people with dementia today and finding a cure for tomorrow.

The determined team of walkers followed their chosen route, eventually arriving at the Plump Duck Café by Petersfield Lake. There, they indulged in a well-deserved and delicious lunch as a generous treat from Blenheim Court.

Cindy Liddiard, the Wellbeing Lead at Blenheim Court, shared her appreciation of the walk, saying, "We thoroughly enjoyed our walk, and we were escorted by lots of happy ducks 'quacking away' to us all as we walked past!"

For one resident who joined the walk, it proved to be a journey down memory lane. They expressed, "It triggered lots of happy memories for me of my family," highlighting the profound emotional impact such events can have on individuals affected by Alzheimer's and their loved ones.

Donations for the Alzheimer's Society still Incoming

The commitment to raising awareness and supporting those affected by Alzheimer's remains unwavering at Blenheim Court. Donations from this heartfelt endeavor are still coming in, and the community eagerly anticipates handing over a generous cheque to the local Alzheimer's Society in the near future.
