The Orchard Launches First Caring Homes Physiotherapy Space With Therapies On Thames
Last week the Deputy Mayor of St Albans, Councillor Sue Griffiths, officially opened a new physiotherapy gym space at The Orchard.
Next Step for Physiotherapy
The Orchard Nursing Home in St Albans is one of several Caring Homes currently partnering with rehabilitation specialists, Therapies on Thames.
Integrating physiotherapy into the daily lives and care plans of our residents has already resulted in many individuals becoming more physically confident. Allocating a designated space where Therapies on Thames can provide equipment and deliver a range of bespoke physiotherapy options for residents is the next step – and The Orchard is the first care home in the group to open up a dedicated area for this.
Ribbon Cut to Officially Open New Gym Space
Customer Relationship Manager, Natalie Collard, organised an event to celebrate the launch which was attended by Maggie Dodd - the Anna Chaplain Lead for St Albans, Verity Forbess and Suzy Bentley White from Hertfordshire Care Providers Association (HCPA), Kumar Gobin from Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) Continuing Care and Discharge Team, and relative Sian Hackett.
Guests mingled in the gym space and chatted with Therapies on Thames’ Managing Director Raj Senniappan, who was delighted to see the ribbon cut by Sue Griffiths, and the area officially pronounced ‘open’.
Great Option for Residents and Members of the Local Community
Resident Dennis dropped by to take get a feel for the new space and commented, "This will be a great addition for both The Orchard and the wider community”.
Team members from The Orchard also came along to check it out, including Deputy Manager, Tubi Malawo, who thought the area would be beneficial for residents requiring physiotherapy. She explained, “Firstly, having the facility on-site and in the comfort of their own home removes the limitations and logistical challenges of arranging external trips for residents. Secondly, it allows for a quicker response to residents’ needs, without the delays associated with waiting for external appointments or visits. And finally, it’s a positive step for the residents’ overall well-being, as regular use of a gym can help to prevent deconditioning and support better physical health."
In addition to the bookable sessions for The Orchard’s residents, time at the gym with Therapies on Thames’s expert physiotherapists can also be booked by members of the local community who may need support after a fall, injury, or operation, or would like to improve their strength and mobility.
