Roll On Up – It’s Brooklyn’s Summer Fete
The team at Brooklyn House decided that July ’26 was the perfect time to continue a much loved tradition – the Summer Fete.
With wall to wall sunshine almost guaranteed, the risk of the event being ruined by rain was low – in fact, when planning began for the 2026 Summer Fete at Brooklyn House, there was more attention paid to keeping residents and guests cool in shaded areas and inside!
Brooklyn’s Wellbeing Team Spring into Action
The home’s Wellbeing team sprang into action when it was decided to host a traditional summer fete – something fun, sociable and enjoyable for all ages, which would involve the local community along with residents, their families and friends. Organisation behind the scenes began well in advance, with decisions to make on the stalls, activities, entertainment and of course, the food.
Luckily, Brooklyn’s Wellbeing team are experts at putting on an event and together with friends and businesses from the community, things fell nicely into place. When the day arrived – a sunny August 1st - everyone came together to set up, decorate and get the party started at 12 noon on the dot.
Stalls, Games, and Fabulous Cakes
Residents and their families gathered with their guests to discover everything on offer – and there was a lot to see and do. Children enjoyed getting their faces painted and trying to ‘Hook a Duck’ while the grown-ups browsed the stalls and tried their luck on the tombola and in the lucky dip. The raffle was great fun for the residents who took turns calling out the numbers and handing out prizes, and everybody got involved in the ‘fete games’ including team members and their children, who fully embraced the spirit of the day!
As well as activites in the garden, stalls were also set up inside as it was such a warm day, and this included the cakes, all homemade by Brooklyn’s chefs and team members. There was a huge selection on offer, including cheese scones, lemon drizzle cake, rocky road squares, coffee & walnut cake, blueberry muffins and flapjacks – and they all went!
Community Helps Raise Funds at a Fun-Filled Fete
A wood-fired oven is perfect for summer party food and pizzas from the De-Lish Pizza Co, set up in the garden, were popular with hungry fete-goers. Meanwhile, a local trio headed up by Martin Edwards provided some wonderful music for the event. All the garden chairs, tables and umbrellas had been positioned in the car park so residents and their families could sit together in the shade and enjoy the entertainment, which included hits from the 70s and 80s and plenty of residents’ requests.
By 4.00pm, the event was coming to a close – the end of a lovely, inclusive and happy afternoon. The team received a lot of feedback from families and residents, who said how wonderful it was to see the community coming together and joining the home in raising money. A special thanks to local businesses who contributed, including Tesco in Watton, The Shack, The Black Door Café, Griffin, Bookaholics, Hide Out and Tony Perkins Butchers.
The Brooklyn House 2026 Summer Fete raised £500 – a fantastic achievement, thanks to everyone’s efforts – money that will be put towards future events and activities that will benefit all the home’s residents.
