Brooklyn House Resident Ambassador Ann Features In 'Keeping Healthy In Older Age' Event

23rd January 2026

The team and residents at Brooklyn House came together for a day of activity, information and fun as they focused their attention on ‘Keeping Healthy in Older Age’.

The theme of the day was inspired by the nursing care provided by the home and incorporated the wider message around what we can do to keep healthy as we get older. A welcome table was set up with an informative poster, fresh fruit and lovely flowers – a bright touch on a dull January day!

Keeping Healthy in Older Age

A key aim of the day at Brooklyn House Nursing Home was to get as many people as possible to have their blood pressure taken and the star of this particular show was Brooklyn’s Resident Ambassador, Ann, a former nurse. Ann set up her station and was wonderful with everyone, welcoming them for a 1-1 that began with their blood pressure – which she took like a pro – and included a chat about their health goals, and an explanation of the home's ‘Eat Well’ guide.

Resident Ambassador Ann Brings her Nursing Skills to Play

Ann absolutely loved having the opportunity to help others again, to use her skills and encourage people to consider ways of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn team was busy getting residents as active as possible, mentally and physically. There was a programme of events that included football darts, armchair exercises and a Stroke Word Search game, and everyone got involved in the activity that suited them best. After putting in so much effort, a nice cup of tea was well deserved but on this occasion, instead of biscuits, it was served with some delicious fruit, kindly donated by Tesco in nearby Watton.

Looking back on the day, Ann said, “It was lovely to do this today and have the time to get to know everyone, and how I could give my skills and what I learnt to someone else in need of that extra support”.

For the team at Brooklyn House, it was a pleasure to see how taking part had brought Ann so much happiness. It’s also a reminder of how important it is that wherever possible, our residents are encouraged and enabled to revisit skills and interests that meant so much to them earlier in life. It was a wonderful day all round!
