Whokulele? YOUkuele!

Whittington House care home with nursing in Cheltenham were entertained by ‘Friends of Ukenited’, who came as a 13 piece Ukulele Band of men and women from all over Gloucestershire.

The Garden Suite Dining Room was full to busting with residents, relatives and staff eagerly waiting for the band to start. The band wore Hawaiian shirts and a few wore themed hats, to match the songs they played.

The atmosphere was one of fun, laughter and song with everyone smiling happily joining in singing and clapping away to the music. The band even managed to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to a resident, who will be celebrating a big birthday at the weekend and it made their day!

There was spirit of friendly competition as the audience was divided in two to have a sing off with the band. There was lots of banter and jokes, which filled the gaps between songs.

This entertainment was a huge success with staff and residents saying “this was the best yet!” and it was “superb”.

Music is very beneficial helping with the mood of the residents, which enhances their well-being and brings them together to enjoy social interaction. This in turn lessens isolations or low mood occurring.
