The Orchard Nursing Home Get Together To Celebrate International Watermelon Day
On Thursday 3rd of August, residents and team members at The Orchard Nursing Home enjoyed a delightful celebration of International Watermelon Day. The event, organised by the brilliant team at the Home, brought smiles and laughter to those that attended.
A Fruitful Day At The Orchard Care Home
In an effort to brighten the day and create a memorable experience, the team at The Orchard Nursing Home rolled out a visually appealing trolley filled with the juiciest watermelons. This vibrant display, described as both bright and funny by some residents, set the stage for a day of celebration and reminiscing.
Drawing inspiration from the popular cheese and pineapple hedgehogs that were a hit at parties back in the 70s, the team attempted to craft a watermelon hedgehog. While the effort was appreciated, it did more than just please the taste buds; it triggered cherished memories for many residents. As one resident noted, "We had given it a good attempt and it had brought back some good memories."
Understanding that preferences vary, the thoughtful team at The Orchard ensured that everyone had something delightful to savour. For those who weren't particularly fond of watermelon, fizzy watermelon sweets were offered, providing a sweet alternative. To add a touch of adult sophistication to the celebration, watermelon and lime gin was also on hand - the gin was an unsurprisingly resounding hit.
Reflecting on the event, Narcis Militaru, Home Manager of The Orchard Nursing Home, expressed his genuine happiness with how the celebration went: "Our residents mean the world to us, and we wanted to make International Watermelon Day a fun and special occasion. Seeing the smiles on residents' faces made all the effort the team put in worth it. We believe that providing moments like these is an essential part of our commitment to their wellbeing."
