Magic Tovertafel table at Mellish House

Mellish House in Sudbury has installed a Tovertafel (‘Magic Table’).

The award winning innovation from the Netherlands provides a number of fun activities designed to engage people living with mid to late stage dementia.

Glenda Davison, Activity Co-Ordinator, said: “When I read about the Tovertafel, I was blown away with the possibilities it held for our residents.

“It was wonderful to see the community come together to raise the money so quickly and make sure that Mellish House remains at the forefront of dementia innovation and care. We are thrilled to see how our residents develop with the Tovertafel and continue to live a high quality of life.”

“As an Outstanding care home, that pride themselves on dementia care, we are thrilled to further enhance the quality of life that residents enjoy here.

“It’s been incredibly moving seeing the residents interact with the Tovertafel games and each other.”

John Ramsay, the CEO of Shift 8 Limited – the company which brought the Tovertafel to the UK – said: “We are delighted that Mellish House have installed the Tovertafel.

Often called “The Magic Table”, the Tovertafel is very versatile and can project onto floors, coffee tables and similar flat surfaces. Users can experience three primary outcomes of play: sensation, relaxation and reminiscence and the magic table provides all three. It can be left on 24/7 which allows residents to use it whenever they want. It’s operated by infrared so there are no moving parts to spoil.

Mellish House provides specialist dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 48 elderly people in Sudbury.
